Default I HATE our new hosting service - any suggestions?
OK, since the board moved last week there has been a problem with the hosting service every f**king day. Every day I have to call and find out why the site isn't working, or why it looks like I'm connected via dial up and not a 10MB fiber optic connection. So much for 99.999 uptime.

Does anyone have any long term experience with a host? I'm not looking for cheap, but reliable. Reading the "Top 10 hosting service" reviews, I've found, is pretty pointless, too.

FWIW, this morning's outage was due to a "power surge". I guess no one thought to install surge protectors or an electrical backup or anything.

Where physcially is the host? In all fairness if it is located in the middle of the US power surges may be the least of their problems, IF THEY ARE TELLING THE TRUTH!

You might try to find the name and home phone number of the person(s) who own the host and call them when ever the site goes down, if they have not notified you first. Like an old Porsche, the squeeky wheel (unless it is running Hawk Blues) gets the grease!

Culling thru my senility I seem to remember this worked to motivate the field engineering division responsible for keeping customers computers up! It pissed em off, but they got good service!

Shooting for something < $75/month. I know there are a lot of $5/month places, but I've had unpleasant experiences with them.

We've hosted TrackVision thru www.infinology.net since 2003 without major issues (the only exception was a domain name expired). No shell access, which is a pita, but we've managed.
