i wear progressives for every day, but for riding the motorcycles and driving the race car, i use bifocals. top half of lens is distance. bottom half is "computer" distance. awesome. the "line" ends up at top of dash in car. great peripheral vision, can see gauges through bottom half of lens and out the windshield through top. frames fit nicely in the helmets.

I have progressive trifocals. I am having the close focal point moved farther away a little bit next time, but I have not had any difficulty with mid or long range stuff, or reading instruments when driving.

My biggest gripe is working on the car when I need to look ‘up’ and the top edge of the glasses are for the farthest distance.

My vision is still 20/20 uncorrected but I need dime-store reading glasses for reading/computer.

However, when you put on glasses, your vision corrects to near perfect. Hearing aids only help partially, rather than fix the problem like glasses. Would rather wear glasses (not that I'm actually using the hearing aids I need...).

I found this solution very effective for many years but recently went back to less aggressive single use lenses for distance only. The single use lenses are very convenient and I found that I adjusted to not using glasses for reading and computer work very quickly. I recently updated three sets of sunglasses to single use lenses with the new prescription to keep in the cars as well.

That is another nice feature of the multi-focal contacts. I can't see the close up quite as well as with the glasses, but I don't have to cock my head to see the small stuff.

Are these ideas something to discuss with my optician, or optometrist?

Ken a friend of mine a helicopter pilot used to turn his bifocals upside down when he needed to look at switches above his head. Worked for him even though he pretty much knew where each switch was with memory, just confirming he could read the actual placard.

Then how do you read your texts while driving?

I guess that is an alternative to turning your helicopter upside down v
