Default 85 911 clutch play at pedals

Should there be any clutch pedal play inside the cabin . I can move my pedal 1/4" to 3/8" by hand before it has any tension ..is this normal or does it need to be adjusted..if it needs adjustment anyone willing to show me..I can have beer on hand..I just had shoulder surgery and will not be able to turn a wrench ..thanks in advance

Craw under the dash with a flashlight and check the pedal bushing, common wear point. Operate the pedal and make sure it pivots on the bushing, not moves your ~3/8" fo and aft.

if you haven't changed the bushings out to the brass ones, you may wish to do that for the entire pedal set...as well as replacing the spring that is associated with the clutch pedal...though you wont be able to do all with a bum shoulder...i would do that first and then there is a procedure for correctly adjusting the clutch.

but i am not sure i would get that concerned about 1/4 inch of movement for now...wait till you are healed.

Ok I feel like this is going to snowball...bushing kit is a must, I guess I should order a new cable also..and a spring on the pedal assembly. Should I order a new horseshoe spring as well...any other items I should get

if you are going to just wholesale refresh the entire thing...just order all the springs and bushings plan for some time to get it out and replace...and then adjust as required...but, before i did that, i would make sure it is really needed....

as recommended, pull up the carpet, remove the board and get down there and look at the bushings...see if they appear messed up...see if you can identify why you have the play you are talking about...replacing the bushings will definitely make the motion much smoother, but usually i have seen the bad bushings cause restrictions in the motion, not lots of freeplay.

second thing might just be a an adjustment to the clutch done under the car. do those things first before just buying replacement stuff..

I looked at the pedal assembly and it has a little movement. Also has the plastic factory bushings..so I will replace them this winter..as for the play its front to back when I grab the pedal..I will have to have someone move the pedal when I am under the car..I would think the pedal should have resistance all the time and not be able to move it forward almost 3/8 -1/2 "

There is a relatively easy procedure for doing that adjustment. you can find it online or in the various manuals...
