Wait, what? $30k to convert a 911 to a 3.6?

Another option is to either throw some gears in there or look for some 15s and tires with less rolling diameter

That's not Dodge Money right there...

Don't forget to post your new shop hours on your Open For Business thread - otherwise the board scrutes will get you.

...I don't think we can afford his hourly rate

Kurt, prices for 3.6 have gone nutty since you built the white car. I'm guessing that $30k is for a fresh engine, right Aaron?

Yep. Fresh 3.6 is $20-25k. I know of one for 8k but it needs a rebuild.

I guess I'm out of touch. The bits to convert really arent that different than hotrodding any other motor. Or at least they dont have to be.

Also makes me rethink whats going on with my box of parts/motor.

Was gonna suggest playing with the gear ratios, assume you have 915 box now.. what year? You should check your numbers.

Still a lot.. good usable motors were usually between $10 -15K but you have to shop.
Conversion kit was available from Patrick, unless he's gone ala-carte with it? Kit consisted of the sheet-metal, interface harness, and a few other pieces.. its not cheap, but it makes it plug and play and its not thousands of dollars. I've also seen these pieces come-up for sale used, or from projects that changed direction.

Exhaust will need to modified but a stock 3.6 can be made to work or you can spend for custom exhaust. If its a V-ram motor you may need to modify/clearance the rear package tray so that the intake clears.

You can also check-out Steve Timmons in DE. He makes-up kits, will do an install, may even take your old motor etc.. in trade to help get your numbers down.

This........except the Timmons part. Hate to say it but I was shocked at the build quality of his kits. This was more than 10 years ago. He might have upped his game since.

Thanks, Paul. I’m not in a rush so I’ll keep my eyes open, but I’m doubtful. Bergman did one last year and agreed it would be about 30. I could never get an official quote from Taylor but it seemed to be ranging around there too. These are with Patrick parts.

If I could store my track car somewhere, I could try doing it myself. After all, one of the reasons I got this was to learn and do more myself. Hopefully I can request some help if I do.
