What type of coating, yellow zink ?

I found some hardware yellow plated with the correct grade (10.9) at bellmetrics

Anyway, please let me know what type of coating.

Thanks
Engelbert

David, you have seen the Beetle a little over a year ago.

Quite honestly I would rather work on the 911, however, you got to make sure the other (better) half is OK.

Cheers

and I remember it well! As others have said I had no idea it had so much that needed to be done! With the engine mods it looks like a fun car to run around in too.

So, now I moved to the left side.

A bit crunchy here

Once the outside skin is gone, it looks not that good any more

More crunchy stuff.. outch

Need to make some cuts

One piece is gone.

It is getting thin

Looks like a few pieces to fabricate...

At this point I decided to replace the complete reinforcement rail on the left side, since I repaired that piece (I'm shocked) 15 years ago. This way I will have a nice strong base.

OK, enough of this, I will move to something more fun. Re-assembly of the chassis:

Preparing some brake lines

And installing them, as well the master and rear cylinders

The rest of the brakes, etc. is for next weekend.

Cheers
Engelbert

Nice work!

I had a 69 beetle. The floor pan was full of holes...had to use a propane torch to thaw the pedal cluster in the winter on a regular basis. It quit running once when the battery fell through the floor and shorted out. I would says yours is a relatively rust free example in comparison

More progress:

Installing the brake shoes

and drums

Ok... now we are moving to the right rear corner

It didn't look that bad, however, as more you dig in....

And before you know it the hole get's bigger

Trying to find the good material to weld on to.

Fabricating some new pieces

And weld them in. No comments needed

Finishing up the outside

To be continued

Cheers
Engelbert
