Default The 987.1 Project

As many of you know, my DIY skills leave much to be desired. However, I have lost my mind and have decided to install new suspension on the 987 myself. Of course, after buying tools that I need, including a quick jack, it would have been cheaper to pay someone to do it.
I decided to go with R&T coil overs with Tarett camber plates, Tarett sway bars, rear adjustable toe link, rear drop link, and caliper studs. I have also ordered window regulator and hood struts since they are caput.
we removed the trim to expose the rear shock tops and put car on the quick jack. I am sure that you will hear me curse all the way from NJ.

Did you not see my offer for stale sandwiches and cold pizza to anyone who comes over to help me wrench on the car.
I learned that from you. FUD.

Good luck with the project, Nader. Just please be very careful removing the old springs. Use a good spring compressor...

It has been going slow, since I am taking my time. Removed the interior pieces to expose the rear shock mounts. I need to use the stock rubber bearing and thrust ring with Tarett camber plate. Rears coil overs are partially assembled except final torquing of the top nut. I decided to order new ones. I also has to order a 10-80 ft/lb Torque wrench.
So far I have taken the caliper off one of the rears wheels. I had forgotten what a PIA removing street pads with backing thingies are. Not sure much happens rest of the week since I am going to NC for a funeral.
I am hoping if I lower the wheel careers enough, I do not need to compress the spring. At least that is what I see on YouTube.
I try to give updates.

I was hoping to drop one of the struts tonight, but I hit a snag.

Do I need a pickle fork thingie to remove the rear toe link joint? It does not move. I am replacing it with an adjustable link, so the camber bolt at the other end is already out.

Nader,
Use a ball joint separator and stand back. The release can be quite violent. I’ve done the 987 suspension install twice and just swapped out rear toe links again. Good luck.

I do not have one. If this job get any more expensive, it will never get done😤
What do you mean stand back?
I see the thing falls off with a little persuasion in many YouTube hero’s’ videos.

It can go either way, made for tv nice and easy, or with a lot more force. Either way be careful.

I removed a existing set of adjustable tie links and replace with the newer Motorsport version from tarret. Both left and right required a lot of force with a ball joint separator. I’d lend you mine, but I’m on my way to Sebring.
