Question What's a good running 996 3.6 worth??

The clear coat failed in several areas on our '99 C2. Not really sure a '99 is worth getting a complete resprayed. Or even touched up as it has spots on hood, roof and rear spoiler, and I haven't driven it since last year. I had a fall last year. And partially tore the outside tendon of my left leg, which hasn't healed well. So am considering parting out the car. So any idea what a good running 2002 3.6 engine and 6 speed trans is worth? We put a new clutch in just before my fall and had the usual prevented updates done to the engine at that time. Engine prolly has ~40K on it. The motor has the 3.8 X51 headers, X51 oil pan, Fabspeed exhaust, and was dynode at 299 RWHP.

Sorry to hear of your fall, I hope your recovery accelerates quickly.

In its present condition your 996 is around 12k, the value is in the engine. With a decent repaint, given the other updates, mid teens up about 20k if you find the right buyer. If you want to sell quickly consider an inexpensive repaint, it’s called resale red for a reason.

I should add, depending on how bad the clear is, a detail may be able to bring back the luster of the paint and would be a lot cheaper than a repaint.

Might make a good track car, how is the suspension

Clear coat is peeling, badly on the Leding edge of the “taco wing”. Any sujestions on where to go to get the resale red paint job? Car has the factory aero and 3rd cooler. I had just finished installing a complete Bilstein Sort suspension w/after market lowering spring. This replaced the GT3 suspension from when L used it for DEs. I still have those. Body and chassis has no damage. So body could be parted out or turned into race car. Could even be basis for V8 swap and 3.6 chickster!,

I have used GTPerformance in Edgewood, MD for the track cars and the kids cars.

Unfortunately, we have used them several times.

The quality is ok for the track and the boys but the price is good. If it were me, I would fix the paint/clear. Sell the GT3 suspension bits to fund the paint work during the off season. Sell the car in the spring, focus on recovery but that’s just me.

How bad is the leg, you can always trade the car in for an automatic

It sounds like a nice little hot rod.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info! Hurt the leg last November!! Apparently, even partially torn tendons take a while to completely heal.

Isn’t the 99 pre-IMS debacle?

Might be the way to most $$ but that will take time. How much for all the effort? I really dont know. I like the idea of cleaning it up a bit and selling as is. 12-14k? I think there are more chassis looking for engines than the other way around.

I'm here to help if you need some labor

The go fast parts you mentioned and the 3.6 crank are worth more than the car or the engine I believe.

TR,

Here is your best course of action.
- Do not part
- Continue to perform all maintenance and re-install all go fast GT-3 parts
- Sell to me cheap in the spring after I have finished the M3 and putting my Fo-Fo back together.
Actually, I was bored the other day and was looking at the LN ENgineering 3.6 to 3.8 conversion kits - looks expensive but fun.
