I confess, other than wondering how many owners a used car has and some sense of registration and accident history, its the only reason I ever used Carfax.

As this article mentions, it just may come down to what you want to learn:
https://www.autolist.com/guides/autocheck-vs-carfax

That said, its just 1 tool when looking for a car. In person inspection. Knowledge of the car/models known issues and the maintenance of those items is more important to me.

Good luck with the hunt. Dont put too much weight on a carfax or similar. Some good info but so many cases of bad/false/missing no way to know if its 100% or not. Hard to beat time on a lift and knowledgeable eyes.

Never used either, but have noticed the odometer verification seems helpful

I've used the free service https://www.nicb.org/vincheck to check if something is stolen.

Agree with others about usefulness of these services being limited to registration history and title defects.
