Default Strarted the afternoon with a bang... and smoke!

I went to start the hibernating Boxster, instead of it starting it went bang and smoke came out between the frunk and windshield. I got out and there was clear liquid coming from under the front (battery acid?). It was still smoking so I pushed it out of the garage... the bright side is it has not gone up in flames.
Electrics flickering, frunk release doesn't work, window controls don't work. I'm hesitant to open the frunk via the fuse panel.
Has anyone had this happen or know what the hell should be done?

Varmints? I had varmint related electronic issues this year, after having the race car sit most of last year. Maybe my critters walked down to your house!

I would open the frunk using the manual release inside the driver side wheel well.

Sounds like a battery explosion - open soon with the manual release and be ready to clean a bunch of acid spray.

It was. Ted is mid clean-up, properly gloved up.

Very good.

Make sure he uses plenty of baking soda to neutralize the acid, and then hoses that compartment out a lot, like at least twice as much as you think it needs. Since the battery compartment is open to the weather, it has drains so you can use the hose -- just make sure the drains are clear first.

The battery explosion is a bit of a relief. From the title, I was initial expecting to read that the engine threw a rod.

Yikes! Guess another mental note will be.. assuming enough juice, pop front trunk lid before starting a hibernating Boxster/911!

Glad to hear it was "only" the battery and not an engine as someone else broached.

"That engine threw a rod so hard it came out of the frunk!"

Default Ammonia

Ammonia will also neutrelize the acid. Open the garage door!

What causes a battery to explode like this? More importantly, how to prevent?
