Yep. They announced it a few days back. Not enough people want them. Plus, who the fuch buys Ford sedans, anyway? They make their $$$ on pick-em-up trucks, and are going to push those even harder now.

Interestingly, according to the WSJ article (you may need a subscription to read it, just realized, sorry about that) that its more about exploiting a 2011 EPA reg loophole which essentially incentivizes bigger vehicles. Here's the gist: "Now, as then, Ford and others are exploiting a well-crafted loophole in fuel economy regulations that makes bigger more profitable. In 2011, the industry won a change in the EPA’s calculation of Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE). The “footprint rule”—which refers to the area within the perimeter of the four wheels—calculates a vehicle’s fuel economy as a function of its size. The rule change effectively incentivizes building larger vehicles by holding them to progressively easier standards. As a result, the largest and most profitable vehicles also enjoy the lowest relative costs of compliance. The rule change also constituted a backdoor tariff on more efficient imports, but that’s another story." WSJ

Can't wait to see the UAW fallout! Got to be 1000s of jobs. Always liked ford/Mercurys. Had plenty over the years. That said; drove several fords, cheves and others, but bought a legacy. Been real happy with choice too.

Seems Ford has sold a sh*t-ton of Fusions. Maybe they don’t make money off them?

They've sold more F-150's and make make more profit on them.
Looks like fusion sales have been tailing off. April 12871 http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2011/01...sales-figures/ F-150 sales - April 73104 http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2011/01...sales-figures/ New Bronco is coming. Just wait until gas is $4 a gallon. Car sales will continue to be sold in other markets.

What irks me is that, you are still selling 100,000 fusions or focus or whatever per year. Its not like no one is buying them. Mazda would kill to sell that many of all its sedans!
Sure you aren't selling a half-million/year like its the 1980s, but its annoying to think I now have to buy a Focus "outback" or a lite SUV instead of a sedan/coupe. Guess there's more money in not making them and letting your competitors capture those buyers and then let those buyers then buy your competitors SUV's instead. Luckily all those $80K pick ups and SUVs are about 50% profit!

Don't forget there are a couple generations out there now who no longer believe in owning cars...
