Default FS 986 Boxster hard top

Chrissie never uses her hardtop anymore so it's time to go. It's a dark shade of blue but I don't know the color code as it doesn't match the car. Very good condition, includes a storage cart.

I'm astonished to see what people ask for these but will ask $2,000 and you can school me if that's stupid.

Asking price includes delivery in the DMV, otherwise pick up in Purcellville VA.

Are you including the "spinlocks" (is that the name? I cant recall exactly the name anymore) of the items needed to attach to top to the car? glwts. I always like the look of the Boxster with its hard top.

Spinlocks and collar bolts included and if you come pick it up I'll install 'em so you can drive home with the top mounted.

Interesting... as pricing seems to be all over the board for hardtops.

Two of my more recent experiences have both been for Carrera Cabrios.

-996 cab hardtop in Silver, 1 minor ding on edge purchased for $250 (Car now sold)

- Purchased mint 997 cab hardtop for a friend in Speed Yellow this past weekend - $500

I think they're a neat option for cabs/convertibles, but they don't really seem to enhance the value of the car at sale time, and they seem to sit around and collect dust of not attractively priced.

I agree, all over the board. The market is weirdly split between Boxster and 911 - can hardly give away a 911 hardtop, but Boxster tops seem to sell high even when not for Spec Boxster use.

I'm always open to offers.

I think the split is, 911 owners may garage their cars more and treat them better, so less likely to be out in rain or snow. Boxster owners appreciate their cars and want to use them year round, so the hardtop makes it easier, as long as you have a place to store it.

Looks like Lapis blue at first glance.. a favorite 986 color of mine.

Wonder if price variety is also based on color (does it match> do I want to repaint to match?>)

anyways, glwts!

I am pretty sure that early 996 cabs came standard with a Hard top. Boxsters did not. People from warm climates could actually "opt out" of getting one and the ones that didn't couldn't give them away as there are so many. Thus the price differences.

If anyone cares, the answer to the question 'what is a 986 hardtop worth in November 2023' is $2000 on E-bag when you include the spinlocks and installation, and the buyer was happy. With fees that's $1750 in hand, so if selling locally one should be happy with $1800.

The folding cart is still available, $75.
