This thread and the 912 thread to follow later this off season are not intended to impress or to show off tools or skills. I was thinking they would be some off season Porsche DIY content that is part of a conversation. The sender for instance. I did not find much of anything on the early 911 tank senders other than where to get new ones. Most people are sharp enough to just toss the old crusted one out and purchase a new one. I saw it as a 0 risk project, fix it or watch it die on the operating table. My point, if there is one, is plenty of people can do this hairy arms and hammers stuff. They are smart enough not to...

I have to confess. I have been working ahead of the thread and poking around in the heart of things. Will catch up when the gas tank is done. Can't coat the outside of the tank until the weather clears up.

Really good info. I wouldnt have thought to open one up. Now you might have some some one some $$, maybe a trackside repair? Who knows, thanks for the updates.

Very impressive, Kurt. I removed my sender several months ago, looked it over but couldn't detect anything amiss. No rust, gunk, etc. I did not disassemble the sender unit. Reassembled, reinstalled and the fuel gauge worked up until two weeks ago. Now stuck at a half-tank.

bring it over. i now iz an expurt.

Does the guage move with power on and off or when you unplug the sender? If not it might be the gauge in the dash or wiring. The floats do get stuck.

Great pics/info on the sender. I've always wondered what they looked liked inside. How does the float reliably short the two wires? Brushes of some sort in the slots?
