On these M3's it always to good to ask about the rear subframe re-enforcement and rod bearing replacement. I believe the rod bearing was a recall for some years and the rear subframe weakness is a known issue on some cars that can be addressed by aftermarket kits.

rear subframe was an issue on the e36 as well. probably not an issue unless you are tracking it.
engine recall thing was only the earlier years of the e46 M3. and if the motor hasn't gone boom by now, its probably a non-issue.
