This is a 6" digital caliper from iGaging I got from Amazon for about $50. So not the generic $12 stuff from HF and not a $150-$200 Mitutoyo. Worth it over the cheapies because:

1. Takes a CR2032 instead of the small LR44 batteries and it LASTS. IME the cheap ones will drain the battery in a week or two, so I started pulling the battery out between uses. This one? Leave the battery in all the time and it lasts about a year, year and a half. That alone is worth the money.
2. Absolute origin. Doesn't get accidentally reset to some random new zero because your fat old man fingers hit the wrong button in the middle of a measurement. So you can zero them at different openings to do relative measurements, but then you hold the zero button down for 5 sec and it goes back to the original, closed jaw origin (without having to close and re-zero them).
Oh, I like that. I have one good one and one HF $12. Use the heck out of the $12 one for all kinds of stuff from which drill bit is close to the bolt that needs a hole to woodworking. Yours sounds like my next get. I like the return to 0 without closing.

Mine appears to be the same thing as a craftsman. Mine has an ABS button (who needs that, I threshold brake). I just tested it and can't get it to reset to zero without closing it. I long ago lost the manual, how do you use this ABS/origin button? Do you have the rubber flap? What goes in there?

The way mine work:
1. Press power button to turn on. Press to turn off. There is no "auto-on" where you move the scale and it powers on by itself. My guess is that this is why the battery actually lasts a long time.

2. Press the 0[]ABS button anywhere to go into "INC" mode. Where ever you enter INC mode become the new zero. Press it again to set a new zero.

3. Press and hold 0[]ABS for 5 sec to leave INC mode and return to absolute mode, where the zero is at the closed jaws.

4. Press ORIGIN for 5 sec to reset the absolute origin of the tool. This comes preset and I've never had to adjust any of mine. This button is recessed so it doesn't get pressed by accident.

Mine has a rubber flap at the top covering a USB port. Never used that.

Try a dose of MiraLax daily for a few days. If that doesn't make it do #2, give me a call.

It's been a very long time since I bought any tools... used to buy everything at Sears in Landmark. Real craftsman tools. Made in America.
My big battery charger 2-wheeled cart from Sears has finally crapped out after 30+ years. It has selectors for maintenance, 6amp, 10amp, 40amp and 200amp. Also has a timer dial... I sometimes need big power for the diesel pickups.
Where do I get a high quality new one? What brand? Do I need Amazon or can I go get it locally?
Thanks

^ lowes has a Schumacher Electric 200-Amp 12-Volt Car Battery Charger for ~$160, sounds like what you are replacing. Similar on amazon for maybe a little less.

$250

My search skills are lacking tonight. I need a decent oscilloscope to read sensor output or ecu output to an alternator. Nothing complex, more is the output, there, in the expected range and consistent. Found a Fluke 123 but $$$, other option is a ds0201 nano. Seems pretty common but I've they can be hit or miss. Then I see the uscope, https://www.aeswave.com/uScope-Basic-Kit-p9621.html . Seems about as basic as it can get but comes with probes and some docs.

Recommendations on a basic scope for automotive applications?

Thanks

Probably overkill for your application, but I have been buying test equipment such as oscilloscopes from Rigol, Hantek, and Siglent lately.

considering the modern cars and batteries this format beats the shit out of them. I sold off all of my old dealer grade metal boxes with wheels. The new stuff is the tits and does not take up floor space. With batteries, a truck is a car until it is 24+ volts.
