Well, I bought Molly2001's track wheels today and want to paint them black. They're track wheels so it doesn't need to be Concours quality, but I think they'll look better in black. Does anybody have experience doing this? What's the best way to prepare them so the paint will stick (the sides of the spokes are painted, the surfaces are shiny but not polished shiny, probably have clear coat)? Thanks in advance.

Temporary or permanent? For Temporary: plastic dip spray paint very easy - last 3-4 years. Nice part of it is it protects the rims and relatively easy to remove. Cleaning wise, prior and to, and to take off (what you cannot peel) I use rubbing alcohol.

Take them to Paul at Radial Tire +/- three days and $700 mine came back looking fantastic.

Thanks, Brian and Karl. These are track wheels to I'll try the Plasti Dip first. The wheels I borrowed at the last DE were flat black and looked badass on the white car, so that's what I'm going for.

When I paint wheels, I use some fender washers, same size as the lug nut, to cover the lug nut surface. A small screw and nut and a washer inside and outside. When done spraying the paint just remove them and there is no paint where the lug nut hit the wheel.

You can see it on these wheels, no paint where the nuts go.
