97s are horrible for Boxster rotors. Some of you AXers may remember the period my car was throwing sparks because of the pads.

I've used HP+ (never again), 97s (never again), 01s (great pads), Oranges (scary semi-hot fade), and will try Yellowstuff (amazing pads on my Mazda) when the Oranges wear out.

I will never use 97s again because they ate my rotors in under 1000 miles without even an AX or track day. The HP+ faded away too quickly for track use. The Oranges are fine, but that hot fade and return scares the crap out of me when I'm braking from 125.

Track pads are not for use on the street. When not in their temp range, they eat rotors. Real track pads should be swapped for real street pads for not up to temp driving. I have moved away from 97s, but they are pretty good at what they are designed to do - which is work at a high temperature range as an enduro pad.

Having used track pads on the street for over two decades, I'd have to disagree. For the average schmoe out there drinking a latte, smoking a cig, talking on the phone, and doing the crossword, you're probably right, but for me, track pads have been the staple of my braking system for a long time. Maybe what I should consider is not listening to Ivan any more. The 97s were his recommendation. Although, to be fair, the 01s were fantastic and he recommended them as a replacement.

Have to agree on the Pagid Orange and their weird hot fade. Really liking the PFC01s right now.

Michael you know how I feel about those EBC Yellows right now. 1 day and they were cooked, fried, crispy ie charcoal Ie don't stop the car no more. And they were free too. They might however actually be killer for autox. The cold bite was immense.

Odd. I've used 97s for years and eventually throw the rotors away from heat cracks, not wear. However, I do vey little street driving w/ them.

Only 1642 track miles on the 97s and the 996TT rotors -- rotors are cracking -- I hate drilled rotors.

Similar experience here: I got a whopping 7 track days on my last set of 930 drilled rotors with the 97s. Unfortunately there are no reasonably priced non-drilled alternatives. I've switched to pagid yellows to see if that helps.

It's been theorized by someone much smarter than me that the 97s work well as a small pad, e.g. carrera, but in large pad form they generate too much heat and crack the rotors.

Paul Weston has indicated there is an alternative for 996TT which requires a one time purchase hat. I have not seen any pricing info yet.
