I picked up a set of OEM mini cooper wheels from a fellow autoxer over the weekend. When I got home, I looked up the part number and it showed it was for 2002 to 2008 models. Ours is a 2013. I researched a bit and I'm concerned they may not be usable due to tpms compatibility.

Anyone know how this all works?

He's got some after market wheels I could look at also. So if the OEM wheels won't work, is there something I should look for to see if the after market wheels are compatible?

Sensor in the wheel

If sensor.....you can probably by spare sensors

If ABS...will just need to re zero

The new to me wheels are sitting in my basement waiting for spring to get closer. The question was if the tpms will be a problem when I get tires mounted.

Early mini's didnt have a tpms, used wheel speed variance. 2013 uses sensors in the wheels, you'll need to go through the learn process.

Wheel speed sensors are somewhat standardized. I believe there are variants of sensors that are part of the valve stem or mount to the inside of the wheel center, attached via a strap. If you want to use the sensors, I believe it should be possible to retrofit the older wheels. However, if the car doesn't go into some sort of limp-mode if sensors aren't detected, you should be able to use them if you can ignore the dash warning. For example, some Corvettes went into limp mode if sensors weren't detected; our 2007 Cayman only displays a message on the dash.
