Default 997.1 Coolant Tank Cap NFG

There was faint coolant smell so I installed a new (blue latest version) OEM cap. The fit was so bad that it would not seal properly. I put some silicon grease on the threads but the fit was really not right. The parts department assures me the part is correct.

For the record >>
2007 911S
This is the part said to be correct: 99619644704

I'll be vindicated if you tell me I need to hamfist it onto the tank. Anyone have a strapwrench they can loan?

FWIIW the old cap is fine and held tight yesterday at FexEx in 100F all day. Larry (SCCA) is my new hero. He!! of a great instructor. No offense to others.

Since the part number begins with a 996 and not a 997, I am guessing the parts guy may be wrong about the application. Good luck.

That’s the right part number for 1999-2012 911’s. Does the cap have a seal/o-ring?

Looks to be the correct part number for the 997. They reuse a lot of simple things like this between models.

#5 in the PET diagram

Any visual differences between the original and 'new'?

The cap is notoriously easy to cross thread. To make sure you get it right, turn counterclockwise until you feel it click as the threads line up. Then tighten.

Todd - Yep, it looks correct. Seal is in place.

Bob - I'll give it one more shot. Good to know I'm not the first
