Yeah we recently bled an E36 M3 which took a much longer than we initially thought. It took so long that the engine had to be shut off to cool down after one round of bleeding. The second round of bleeding did the job and we got full hot from the vents and the water temp was normal after some spirited driving.

One more thing to be aware of is that some cars have a bleeder on the theromstat as well, though I think this only applied to E30 M's so you probably don't have to worry about it.

Last night the lower radiator hose popped off while I was taking a turn and allowed me to see how it handles in a slide. The clamp broke. I replaced the clamp and checked the radiator for any damage because the necks love to crack, seems OK.

I refilled it and burped it. I also tore open glove box area to get to the cable that opens the flap on the heater core. It was not connected. I read this was common on a 318ti forum. So now with the heater core flap in the right position, it blows heat. Bad news is that the heat dial, still does not move the heater core flap properly. Looks like more dash opening to get the cable right on BOTH sides.

Does it use the e36 dash controls? Cant remember. If so I might have a spare, let me know and I'll try to dig it up.

They have unique cheaper controls, but thank you.

If anyone cares, The cable that connected the hot/cold rotary knob (bowden cable) was disconnected at both the knob side and the heater core side. The knob side was simply a case of slipping the looped steel cable back over the knobs peg. I did not figure any way to make it more secure in the future. On the heater core side, the plastic tab that secures the cable slips into a slot on the heater core. I drilled a tiny hole and used a small screw to ensure that does not back out again. Heat is hot now. I wonder how many years my mom drove it without working heat?

We all care! Why not post some pics? Maybe some interest in the future.

I finally got a few moments to get the ti on my lift. I saw a coating of oil under most of the motor. I can not figure where the leak is, but it appears to be higher than the oil pan gasket. Is there a M44 usual oil leak culprit?

It is also throwing a code for a small evaporative emmissions leak. I checked the air pump tube, but could not see anything. No obvious leaks. Any ideas?
