i am getting ready to have piper motorsport install race seats in the a 981 cayman

the sportscar shop, no longer in business, was able to code out the seat airbag with either a pwiz or durametric unit, not sure which

I thought that if you don't have the 3-points inserted, the air bags won't deploy.

You need a PIWIS. Intersport reportedly has been able to do it on a 981. I just swap my seats once a year.

If you remove the OEM seats the seatbelt latches and the related electronics goes out with the seats. Not sure what happens with the airbags when using harnesses only.

i will not be swapping out seats between seasons

once these are in, the will stay in until i sale the car (or total the car!)

i am also thinking about removing the three point seat belts, but that may not pass va safety inspection

i just want the stupid seat belt light to come one when i start the car, then go off after the 'system' check like it normally would

The receivers for the seat belts (the part with the red button) are wired into the seats. You can’t remove them from the OEM seats without serious wiring surgery. I tried and gave up. Ended up purchasing some simple non-electronic receivers on EBay (from a 944 I think). Bolted these receivers to the race seat mounting brackets. This way I can use three point on the track and driving to and fro. Your best bet is to get some receivers to use with your track seats and get the airbag light turned off by a shop with a PIWIS. Gotta have three point to pass safety inspection.

See this thread and use your on judgment https://www.quora.com/Does-an-airbag...o-be-activated I think Lara is correct but there can be car model deviations.

I kept the 3pt buckle in place as I need it for public roads. Don't use the 5/6 pt on public roads as one would require a head restraint for safety and this is not practical.

Don't worry about the beep it goes off in 1 min. You should be focusing on the track any way

I bought a package of these last year, and they work fine. Plugged into the buckle, the system thinks the 3 point belt is being used. I'll bring some to the Shenandoah DE if you want to try it.

He won’t have a buckle when his race seats are in, unless he adds one. And even then the buckle won’t be tied into the electronics.

Actually I did it on my 981, it was just a matter of plugging the receptacle pig tail into the socket that was under the seat. It was actually easy and did not require any rewiring.
