I had the Willwood hitch on my Boxster and the aluminum trailer shown in the original post. The hitch works very well and it's quite well hidden when not in use.

Thanks, that is good to hear. Agreed, I like how he has designed it. Apparently, those trailers are no longer made.

Since it's a 997, there's also the option of a roof rack to haul 4 tires. Many have done it.

I do have a roof rack. Since the inspectioneers allowed me to drive at last years HPDC I'll make a small leap this would not be a problem at DE?

With the tires removed of course. Blink.

No, I don't think that would be allowed (I'm not the decision-maker here, by a long shot). But those that have used this method have removed the roof rack at the track, and replaced it for the drive home. Plenty of willing help at the track.

I made a reciever for both my 987 and current 981. Both have very different bumper bars and required a different solutions. The hitch that Bill had and helped make for Steve is also a nice solution. The Willwood has good reviews but very expensive. The tire trailers are pretty light and tow very easily. I've seen a few 997's towing them so it can be done.

Prior to towing a trailer I used a roof rack on the 987. It was a pain in the tush and I don't wish that upon anyone.

Appreciate the sentiment. I'll probably deal with the roof rack for one season rather than start another @#$% project. Hell I don't even own spare wheels yet.
