I read the OP as the owner did not have/ use a regular key, and only has electronic ones.

Item #3 in OP seems to indicate that 2 mechanical keys are in his possession.

Thought maybe the electronic keys might be those short stubby things that you push into a slot, but only send electronic info. Can't say I've ever seen a car door lock that the mechanical key could not unlock. Is there some type of magnetic lock in addition to the mechanical lock???? Did the OP just not turn the key enough in the lock? Very fuching strange.

I have never been able to charge, much less start, a Boxster or Cayman from the fuse panel as described in the manual.

With enough google searching, I've seen a few online forums with similar problem descriptions. Battery dies and key unlock does not work. Apparently there is a plastic piece inside the door that couples the mechanical gizmo together that can break. And nobody (including me) checks that their mechanical lock works until their electronic lock goes bad.

Unfortunately, I never found a solution posted online other than the cable in the wheel well (that is difficult to get to in this situation).

So no real help here, just wanted you to know that this problem is more common than one would think.

Other option, just break the window and replace it later.

Nobody has responded to my prior question - is there a way to remove the "wheel lock" lug if the "key" is locked in the trunk?

Weld a bolt onto the end of it.

Call a tow truck. They will wheel it out of the spot on go-jacks and take it to a dealership. They have full sets of wheel locks and skills to get the car fixed without collateral damage.

Wow, did not realize the broken mechanical key lock was in issue. I'm going to double check the door locks on our cars.

X2 with VG about this. Wheel locks can be removed, but usually causes collateral damage to the wheel, particularly if the lugs/locks are in a recess. If flat on the surface can be much easier, so depends on the wheels. Dealerships will have all the OEM lock keys. But if the locking lugs are aftermarket, could be more challenging.

FWIW, I finally fitted all our cars with battery pig tails to easily connect trickle chargers (though not a solution if car is parked away from an outlet). However, now that I think about it, if you attach a pig tail that you could hide but still reach from the back of the frunk lid, near the bottom of the windshield, it would be possible to connect it to another 12V battery, jumper cable, etc.

Wheel locks are so 1980. You should get rid of them ASAP -- they cause more problems than they solve.
