Default New Manufacture Front Wheel Bearings - Issues?

I thought I saw a thread or maybe it was a track-side discussion with dorkis on issues with new manufacture wheel bearings (SKF, Fag, etc). Some were having issues with new bearings as in the quality was lacking resulting in early failure or ??? I did a search here on dorki and on rennlist. I didn't find what I was looking for.

Is anyone aware of a thread or is this worthy of a new conversation?

I've had axel issues, not wheel bearing issues so much

Try this link to get to the thread I think you're referring to: https://dorkiphus.net/porsche/showth...bearing+grease

Some interesting discussion about new sealed bearings sold without grease.

I think Wilson switched to Timken and Wilson knows everything.

I had a brand new half shaft rushed to me at VIR during a club race. The rear hub broke and chewed up the half shaft.

Intersport put it on trackside. When I got home after the race, the brand new rubber CV joint covers were cracked and leaking. The rubber boot was made out of that cheap crap from China. It even had that weird smell that Chinese rubber has -- because it is rapidly decaying (triple Carbon bonds breaking down due to O2, etc). Funny thing is, my spare boots I put on were made by the same mfr but it was a different rubber source I am assuming. Those replacement boots are still on the car some 3 years later.

Thanks everyone for the fast replies. Timken it is.

I have some sealed rear axle bearings in my parts bin in the race trailer. They are most likely not Timken brand. Thus, I will have to get them and rework the grease. I hate rework. Rework = a low quality problem that our suppliers are making us own. Use good materials and charge me a few more bucks. I am ok with that.

Years ago Karl Poetl that owns RacersEdge told me to use Timken bearings and Mobilith SHC220 grease. I noticed at the Baltimore Grand Prix several of the pro teams using same stuff. Never had a failure since I switched.

Have any of you used this bearing grease:

Neo Synthetics HP800 High Performance Wheel Bearing Grease

Sloan swears by it.

BillC has one HoF thread
Default

I just installed 4 new FAG wheel bearings in the boxster. I opened up and regreased all of them with the Mobilith SHC220 that Vicegrip and TurboPooch recommended in the other thread.

It turned out they all had plenty of grease in them from the factory, so the factory seems to be getting better about applying grease. But, it was the same pale beige grease shown in the video, so I went ahead and replaced it.
