^Yeah. If you want D to sound like A, just run it through a processor or lousy analog stage first and pre-distort the signal

I'm planning to cancel my "Amp Camp Amp" order (today is the last day). They're sold out (shipping Sept. 15th), so if somebody wants the kit I ordered (complete kit with chassis) please tell me by this evening. I don't have time to build this, and actually don't really need it -- just thought it would be neat. So let me know if you want it, otherwise I'll cancel my order.

After 25 years without a turntable, I bought a Rega PL1 Planar Plus and hooked it into my aging system (Aragon 8008BB, McCormack Micro Line Drive, PSB Synchrony 1B speakers, and REL Strata II sub). (And no, there is no TechDAS Air Force 1 in my future.)

I have to say that it sounds a lot better than I was expecting - and I realized that I probably never heard a turntable hooked up to a better-than-Best-Buy system before. There was plenty of bass and good recordings sounded engaging.

That said, CD still has vinyl beat on channel separation and lack of surface noise - but otherwise they are very similar. You should also take into consideration my hearing ain't what it used to be either (where did 16kHz go?)

Nice table: As you upgrade the cartridge you will see the soundstage get wider, upgrade enough and you start to pick up additional depth. The cartridge on a turntable is equivalent to tires on a car, and we all know better tires make faster cars.

Nice TT. Source and speakers are key components. What are you using to clean your vinyl? Here is a great thread on mixing your own solution - http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/ind...689430/page-89 Very long post but the formula brought back 40 y/o LPs. I mentioned earlier there is a local Hifi / HT FB group. Have to be added. DC Area Audiophiles & High End Home Theater Enthusiasts Enjoy!

Question

My mom wants rid of my dad's audio gear. I don't think any of it rises to the level of what you guys appear to cuddle but let me know if you would like any of these pieces. Price is the effort to swing by her house, unplug it, and carry it away. Mt. Vernon area:

Fisher Receiver:

Revox Large Reel-to-Reel:

Sony Small Reel-to-Reel:

Technics Cassette Deck:

I'd be happy to take the Revox off your/ her hands. I would likely need to either pick it up Saturday or during the day Monday, or else it would have to wait 1-1/2 weeks.

Definitely some cool vintage gear. That receiver and the Sony R2R could really use a good home. Plenty of people around these days who rehab this kind of gear.
