Default Solvent Question

After removing the carpet from my car, I'm left with the residue of all that glue. What solvent(s) has(have) others used to remove this? Also, I intend to place an order for POR-15 later today. I know people have ordered and tried searching but came up empty. What's the best place to buy (don't need much). Anybody LOCAL want me to order for them, too, to split the shipping?

Peter

Goof off and acetone (not mixed) are two I use. Becareful or you won't be left with any paint.

N&S rentals in Germantown sells POR-15 by the can - no shipping (but there is tax). Or order directly from the company. Since your google skills are teh suck, here you go: http://www.por15.com/

Does the "green" can spell danger like for the Brake Clean? I used the 3M stuff and it didn't work but seriously fuched up my head spraying it in the back seat

Yeah, I had to sign a waiver to buy it! Somehow I managed to use it without killing too many brain cells. You spray it on and let it sit for a few minutes, come back and it peels off with some rubbing. Do a small area at a time to avoid doing a "DR".

I had good luck with xylene. Its available at Home Depot. Have fun removing that glue. Its the one job I hope to never have to do again.

Don't use brake cleaner. It works, but I certainly lost several points off my IQ. I spent an afternoon in an IS300 stripping with a putty knife and a can of brake kleen and only realized how fuched up I was when I tried to get out of the car. I was able to pawn the job off on a less senior crew member after that dose.

I am using 3m glue remover in the '78 with good results. Just make sure that anything you use, you use in a WELL ventilated area!
