Default A moment of zen.

Sitting on my front porch looking out across the Shenandoah valley from high, 13 month old mostly Mastiff 120# dog just got back from a romp in the woods and is now chilling with her big chest across my formerly chilled bare feet while looking out at "her" domain. Golden hour light, sun setting on far side of the valley. Redbuds popping, magnolia opening up, big trees just starting to bud up. Now and then deep moos from the dairy cows down below near the river. Light 68 deg down mountain breeze to calm winds and no bugs. Last dregs of a good stiff drink clinking around in the glass.

If you slice it thin enough life is good.

Your turn. Paint a picture of something good. Cat purring, good cuppa joe, good meal, what ever. No matter what crap we deal with day to day we all get little moments of zen. Share the moment in description.

Our street is lined both sides with Cherry trees which are bursting. Sun is shining hard, I'm just back from 4 hrs. riding bicycles with my race team and BBQ smoke is wafting from the Big Green Egg.

Me and Mrs. Too Tall are sitting on our porch yelling at neighbors to come sit for beers...it's working. All of it is working.

Thanks for the positive note ViceGrip.

I'm at the Tyson's DMV on my lunch break, which is as weird and gruff as you'd expect.

Amid all of that, I'm watching and seeing a great deal of gentility and even kindness across all manner of boundaries.

(This excludes the 40yo guy who's apparently failed the written test often enough to need scientific notation and is demanding a do-over, but as VG says, sometimes you have to slice it thin )

Man, if this description is your idea of slicing it thin, then I need a sharper knife for what I need to cut.

Just reminding myself that acceptance is the only thing I have control over has to do for now.

I don't believe that for a second. You live in the Garden State!

Ed and Too Tall gets it. Thin slices are things like I watched a dollar bill handed forward person to person about 5 people when the guy in the front of the checkout line was something like $.82 short. Not a word said but a “Thanks!” From the guy in front.

I think we are missing them in the faster phone based world.

i.e., "someone hand that old coot in the front of a line this dollar bill, or we will be here for two hours while he slowly counts through the pile of pennies he pulled out of his pocket!"

Hey whatever works. Young fart, embarrassed and thankful. I am new to the whole Sheetz thing. For some reason WaPo does not deliver to my house and I have to pick one up now and then.

Glance at the front page
