Your right I missed that! But at least anyone else looking at the post will now know how to ferret out the answers. Good lick with your quest.

I also missed this, thanks for pointing it out.

Congratulations on your purchase and thank you for the additional information, very helpful. Sounds like a memorable adventure.

I’m not the right guy to provide assistance because I know nothing about the 928.

As David said, good luck with your quest.

Suggestion: consider changing the color of your reply text so that it is easier to pick out in the quoted text. Otherwise, it just looks like a wall of quote and most people will skip over it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm also a newbie to this forum. I have much to learn.

You might have more luck in searching for "928 Frenzy" on pcapotomac.org. The Frenzy, if you don't know, is an annual gathering over three days of 928 enthusiasts, probably a hundred or more. The gathering is this weekend in Northern Va.

you might consider just renting a truck and trailer and bringing it home...less risk of sitting on the side of the road with or without the extra hands...

This is a great idea. Enterprise truck rental (not the regular consumer Enterprise) will rent you a pickup with tow package. U-Haul car trailer. Done.

I am about to leave for the 928 Frenzy. If you come down to either the Holiday Inn or Odd and Ends Detailing in Sterling VA tonight or tomorrow, you will find 60 to 80 928's and more 928 knowledge than you could absorb. You should also check out the 928 forum at www.rennlist.com, which is an unbelievable source of info.

I second the rent and tow idea. For the early cars, a big issue is cracked and hardened rubber lines between the injectors and fuel rails. Many early cars lost to fire this way. Never go anywhere without a fuel pump relay or a jumper wire to bypass it. All ground points for the electrical system need to be good and clean, as do the connections for the 8 million relays and 3000 fuses in the central electric panel in the passenger footwell. A failed pressure hose on the power steering can also squirt ATF on the driver's side exhaust manifold and start a fire.

928's are not inherently unreliable. When maintained they are fine. They are complex and if you do not do the work yourself and do it right, paying someone else to do it will bleed you white.

If it were me, I would trailer it and then start replacing any and all old rubber fuel lines, power steering lines and tranny cooler lines before anything else.

The car got a positive report from a PPI so the trip is on. I wish I could go to the 928 frenzy but I had already committed to helping my sister this weekend.
