I have a fender from a 1977 911 (Minerva Blue even) from Kurt (remember his 'lightness' 911, it was off that one) that is in better shape.

Should I:

1) Totally replace the original fender with the other good used fender.

2) Cut off the lower dog leg from the other good used fender and use it to repair the original fender thus keeping as much original metal as possible.

I can see the issue both ways but am leaning towards option 2. I am not usually stuck on a decision but I think I need some sage advice, and smarta$$ too.

After sleeping on it I am going with keeping it as original as possible. Going option 2. It is only original once....

Cut and patched fender with now damaged zinc coating over a same stamping fender in full bare metal repaint?

VG is clearly more qualified than I. I wasn't aware of the zinc issues.

Perhaps the rusty one could be repaired for future use.....or offered up for sale at your local PCA Club Race.

Very cool project and a really clean car to begin with. Thanks for posting the pictures.

So I keep seeing shite from folks on other buying sites about ‘the front fender was replaced’ and devaluing the car vs ‘minor rust repair to the original fender’. Either way the repair will outlast my lifetime. I am going with my decision. If this is the worst decision I can make for this car I consider myself fortunate.
