And to put to rest the saga of which fender to use the painter fixed the original fender with new metal (he did not want to harm the donor fender) and painted it AND stripped and painted the donor fender I gave him. So now I have two drivers fenders like new.

Yep, I'm sure I'll do some level of damage in the next year or two as I finish taking it apart and putting it back together. Fortunately the deal with the painter (his insistence) is that he will come out when I am just about done and fix my boo boos and a couple spots he wants to do better as well.
