Default One Lap of America 2020

I've mentioned this in other threads in passing, but I had planned to run OLOA in 2020 with a good friend in North Carolina. Well...I hit a rather major bump in my road to OLOA today - my esteemed friend and car-owner had to bow out for the event. I'm bummed, but I'm looking at my options to see if I can still make it happen for 2020.

So...here's where I am:
- I have a confirmed entry for the 2020 OLOA. I've paid the event deposit, etc. The event is currently sold out.
- I own vehicles that _could_ do the event, but I really don't want to use either of them.
- I really want to co-drive someone else's car this year
- I'm willing to split a "track insurance" policy with the car owner for the event

The smart money is to drop out and try again next year. Since it's just January 2, I'm going to give it a college try first.

I'm guessing this will be the hard part to get past...

Good luck - a couple of friends of mine won the SSGT2 class back in 2005.

Yes, yes it will.

A guy I know in GA is selling '15 S3 that would be a fantastic base for OLOA, as it has the entire APR catalog on it and appears to have been built extremely well. The price is right (~$35k for a car with 35K miles, $25K of quality modifications) and he's motivated to sell it.

The wife would KILL me if I did that.

Good luck, this sounds like a lot of fun.

They have a stock class correct?

Why not just pick up a leftover new GTI, they can be had for just over 20k.
Run the OLOA and sell the car for 15k when finished.
Probably one of the cheapest ways to go and the CFO is happy.
Add a co-drover or two and you are in.

What could go wrong

Enjoy

Ha, yeah, a lot could go wrong with that. My intent was to not buy a car for OLOA...this year. I did join the FB group for OLOA yesterday, and I'm now talking to two different folks who have a car and are looking for another driver. We'll see how that goes.

They have a variety of classes based on price, engine size, country of origin, and then this "stockish" rule for cars in class that are essentially unmodified aside from tires and brake pads.

Truthfully, I don't care about the competition aspect this year. I just want to do it and have fun first. I'll figure out if I want to "try harder" and compete if I run it again.
