You might want to PM Toby, as I'm pretty sure they have an aftermarket wheel. Is the airbag deployed, or still packed?

PM? Post it here - its a technical board. That way, one day someone might actually use the search function and have their question answered as well

IIRC, screws behind the wheel undo the airbag, disconnect plug, unbolt wheel from column via large center bolt. Disclaimer: If you blow it up and hurt yourself it not my fault. It didn't take us long searching the net to figure out how to do it the first time.

FWIW: in our annual christmas airbag races we've discovered a 996 bag will go 2x higher than either a E30 or E36 bag.

How about the web site Lucky used for his suspention upgrade. I'd be careful of the AB!!! Thought you needed to unplug before doing anything? Who was the '44 drover that had a 4 off and the passenger AB went off and broke his windscrean??

Bah, airbags don't just deploy on their own. Everyone says to disconnect the battery when you're removing/reinstalling an airbag. I'm not convinced that actually does anything.

Searches are so 20th century . . . with the increasing prevalance of discussion boards, there are a million users waiting to answer every question!

I just changed to an aftermarket wheel over the holidays.

1) Disconnect battery, wait one minute (I also pump the brake to make sure the car is fully discharged)
2) Remove 2 torx screws (T25 IIRC)from behind the steering wheel
3) Airbag pulls straight out
4) Remove horn contacts from steering wheel
5) Pry airbag contact off back of airbag with flat screwdriver
6) Remove steering wheel bolt (24mm socket)
7) Pull steering wheel straight out (Mine was stuck and it took quite a bit to pull out)

Picture of the new wheel. (Horn buttons still to be installed.)
