24 years without a speeding ticket (13 of them owning and driving a P-car)...well, I got one today. After completing my 6+ hour drive to Cleveland in the Targa, picked up the U-haul van to move Ben's stuff, and after 0.7 miles get pulled over for 45 in a 25. Unless I hear otherwise, I'm going to pay it. Last moving violation was about 12 years ago (right turn on red in a no-right-turn-on-red zone). Can't get to Cleveland to go to court.

You got to Cleveland to speed. Why can't you get there to have your day in court?

Find out of there's reciprocity. If not, screw it. Pay it and forget about it. Just don't move to Ohio any time soon.

Otherwise, get there, explain to the judge you were in an unfamiliar vehicle, driving down hill with a tailwind. You have a 24 year record with no speeding tickets. The only ticket was 12 years ago turning right on red but you couldn't see the sign because of glare.

It should work out for you given your record. I'd be they either dismiss it, although 20 over in a 25 zone is pretty bad in their eyes, or suspend it. Since you don't drive in OH, you'll make it through the suspension and it'll be dropped.

Best case, the cop doesn't show. Not likely, but it could happen.

X2 on the reciprocity. If it doesn't carry over to MD where your insurance company will find out, then just pay it. I did have to drive back to NC at one point a decade ago to go to traffic court cause the cop wrote down the speed limit as 55 instead of the 65 it should of been. So my 74 had me as reckless incorrectly. Short 5 minutes in court, but 6 hours each way to get to it. Just had to pay court fines, which were 5 dollars cheaper than the ticket, but avoided all points and kept my ability to drive in the state.

They have traffic attorneys in NC you know! I had a speeding ticket in NC in the late 90's, court date was a few months out. Rather than drive back down there, I opened the phone book, called a traffic attorney down there, and he took care of it. He got it reduced it from reckless to just simple speeding, and I paid my fine by mail.

DC is the only jurisdiction that does not have reciprocity, all 50 states do.
