Hello All,
Recently found this forum from a local friend in the area, said you were good people and that I should poke around.

I live in Carroll County (Finksburg) and am probably similar to a lot of you. Have a love of cars and more recently discovered the joys of track days. I have about 10 track days in a Porsche 997.2 C2S that was very fun. Earlier this year I purchased an M Coupe for track duties and this past weekend had the pleasure of giving it a spin at V.I.R.

The plan now that I decided I like it is to outfit it with some safety equipment such as cage, seats, harnesses etc.

I am in the midst of an E30 M3 restoration project that should be done shortly. I hope to have it back in the next few weeks. It was a good 10 ft'er that I decided to make into a restomod project. Before anyone asks how I could ruin an E30 M3 by having a turbo swap motor blah, blah, blah, instead of me ruining it, I like to think I saved it. The car was a bit of a mess and had zero history. The motor was already swapped when I purchased it so don't yell at me for not having an S14 in it.

Hope to meet some of you at local track days, shows or cars and coffee type stuff.

Cheers.

Welcome to all the newbies! As for winter vs. whatever; unless you have ready access to a sheltered work area just by M/S tires and swap out for your 3 season (track tyes) in spring and back in fall. PCAP's track season schedule is good for planning when.

If you need more incentive remember newer Porsches use wheel bolts not studs. So lots of care in changing wheels is needed to limit potential damage to hubs.

Thanks for the welcome =-)

Here she is, again it was a pretty good 10 fter. I liked the look of the car but the details is where she fell apart.

Unfortunately while the car looked pretty good, once the tear down started it revealed there were some pretty rough areas. The worst being a common problem with E30 M3's. The M3 had a bonded windshield and most of the time when a windshield was replaced, the installer would unknowingly fill in the drain holes resulting in this....

There was no evidence that this cancer was occurring . It wasn't discovered until after the car started to be stripped down.

Some other areas of concern

You can start to see how many times this car had been painted.

Time to get down to the nitty gritty and to bare metal.

Getting down to bare metal revealed a badly repaired rear quarter which has been corrected.

Underneath the sunroof

Again, no indication that this was lying underneath.

Car in primer

Cage being started.

In the meantime, while the car was getting body work done, luckily the fabricator for the turbo stuff had an E30 on hand to mock up everything.

Here is the cowl repair and the some paint.

The repaired rear quarter that was a hack job

Some more paintwork

note that the car had painted very crappy an estimated 4-5 times. All new bumper support hardware and plugs to get back to an OEM look. Even though this is located behind a bumper and no one will see it, getting back to proper trim was important to me.

Interior coming together.

Alcantara headliner, rear tray and pillars with a quick shot of how the roll bar was integrated in to the stock rear seats.

Here is a view into the worst part of the car (imho) Under the hood was basically a hack job. The car appears to have been turbo charged at one point and they decided to make clearance by banging in the front strut tower. Just put some heat wrap tape over it.

This is the front passenger front fender area as viewed through the front headlight. ooof.

Closeup of the "clearanced area" for the previous turbo.

Ahhhhhhh. Much better. Previous unused holes and non needed brackets shaved and filled in.

A little insight into the turbo. probably looking at somewhere around 450 whp.

Howdy,
Very glad to find a local resource.
I've been restoring old trucks and 60's hotrods as a hobby for years. A few years ago a friend wanted my 66 Nova SS badly and that seemed like a good time to quit the hotrod hobby...I got a 2007 997.1 and here I am.
PCA member and looking forward to meeting a few locals, have a beer and do some fun driving.

I think I heard an angel say:
"you have to come drive on the track with us..."

Just took another look at KSWerks' photos. It must be a lot warmer in Finksburg than in the rest of Maryland...
