hey!!! lmao

few more layout tidbits:

Quote:
Colin Wheildon's Type & Layout: How typography and design can get your message across—or get in the way, describes the huge effect typography has on how well readers understand what they read.

For instance, given a good article of general interest with otherwise ideal layout (on paper),
  • Switching from full justified text to ragged right drops the percentage of readers with good comprehension of the contents from 67% to 38%.
  • Switching from serif to sans serif body type drops good comprehension from 67% to 12%.
  • Any text color but black drastically reduces comprehension -- to 51% for a dark color, 29% for a medium color, and 10% for a bright color.
  • Black text on colored tints of 10% or less works fine. On darker tints, comprehension drops rapidly.
i know, it's for printed text, but same rules apply

Thanks Jazz. We have decided to redo the entire site now...

JK... maybe

Seriously, thanks for the link. I will peruse it this week sometime. You know, to be completely honest, I like the darker themed sites I have seen and since I stare at computer most of the day, I have always felt the darker pages were less strenuous on my eyes. My wife says I am weird... I guess she is right afterall. Anyway, this is one of the reasons I pushed for this darker design (Bob my cohort was more like you in thinking), plus the inspiration was area 51-ish originally.

This has helped. Thanks. Out of curiousity, aside from the article Jazz posted, how many others that have seen the site actually think it is an eye strain?

my opinion is useless but i think it's too 'colorful'. rainbow-y almost. feels distracting

i agree it's an eyestrain. some nice cars already registered. the registry is a great idea cuz these truly are such wonderful cars. not just on the street and track but offroad and in snow as well. couldn't imagine not having one.

Thanks everyone... looks like Bob and I have some more work to do. We will try to make it less of a strain on the eyeballs.

I hope there were no bad feelings from any of the posts in this thread. None here...

I appreciate the feedback today. We needed it.

Okay, sorry to bring up something from a few pages ago, but I'm confused. I see agreement that blue text on a black background (at least darker blue text) makes baby Jesus cry. But does being a dick make baby Jesus cry or not? I may be Jewish, but I still don't want to make baby Jesus cry...
