Well it has been an interesting winter so far. after the loss of the 325i in October and parting it out I came upon three cars over the past 4 months. 94 Honda Accord which I repaired and sold to a neighbor. A Lexus sc300 which I had committed to buy from a friend. It needed a timing belt due to age. Swapped it out though the existing 11 year old timing belt looked perfect to me. And a dorki 328is (thanks handlebar) which I was initially planning to pull parts from for my 99, but have decided to keep as my son is asking to take the sc300.

Driving I decided the car needed a clutch replacement and had a hard pedal and something else which didn't seem right. When I pushed the pedal to the floor it wouldvibrate and grind really badly. So pulled the transmission and discovered it will need a clutch, so parts being ordered. C and c machine shop apparently can resurface a dual mass flywheel. So will see if mine can be resurfaced before ordering another (or may likely get a regular flywheel conversion kit which is available).

The grinding I believe was coming from a broken fork pivot pin. Plastic piece which costs all of 2 bucks but requires tranny removal to get to. So while I am in there going to replace all shift bushings, center bearing and guibo. Should be a load of fun driving. Couple pics below. Got stuck today pulling the tranny out as the starter wouldn't separate. Had to pull the intake to get access to hit the starter a few times to get it to part from the tranny. Might be time for an older version of the intake. Couple of pics provided.

Enjoy it, Tito. Glad it went to an appreciative Dorki home.

We are talking about the upcoming Autocross season- my son misses the smaller size of the E36 already; he likes the power of the E46, but this has been a good discussion of cost/benefit for more-of and less-of...

Good. I would like to swing by once I get all this sorted and get the fog lights. Hopefully in a few weeks.

Good luck with the SC. It's been a few years but I've driven a few from stock to supra TT swaps, cool cars. I like the idea of the v8/manual over the 6 but even the 'little' motor moved along ok. Very well put together cars.

I have always like the supras and after doing the research on the car and its somewhat rarity/following, decided to buy and play with it. had some minor issues, (the most concerning was the timing belt age), and thus far have been able to deal with all myself...so didn't break the bank putting it back together...as it was uninspected and hadn't really been driven much for over a year...but all is well and it is on the road again. I actually quite like the car...not as small and quick as the 3 series...but very comfortable and pulls quite nicely...

The cause of the grinding and vibration when the clutch was fully depressed. The clutch fork is held in place by a wire spring, which holds the plastic pin in place. That pin then slides into the bell housing. The pin was separated and hence the fork was just hanging there. Picture is the back of the fork.

Parts (clutch kit, shifter bushing kit, guibo) all coming in. bought an obdI intake (bought it back from the guy I sold it to off the parted 325i) to put into this car and supposedly increase the top end hp. hopefully by next weekend will have the car back together and running. Only my second clutch install, but plenty of install instructions online...so shouldn't be a problem. For any other BMW owners, C&C automotive machine shop was able to cut the dual mass flywheel with no issues...cost was 125 (10 percent of a new one).

Update: clutch installed, trans and drive shaft all back together. Need to put on the exhaust and bleed the new slave cylinder and will then get back into the engine bay and get the m50 intake installed. Let's see how the week pans out. After two straight days of working under the car my back has had enough sliding around for one weekend. Really need to get a mid rise lift.
