For the literalists in the bunch, is it possible to fix it w/o getting a new transmission. And the larger question: does anyone know how to do it or what is involved?

I thought all GT4s where automatics.

I remember that. Didn't seem to strike a sense of urgency for the owner...

Chris is right, not sure what I was thinking, doing too many things at once. Here's the info for the parking lock on the PDK. It's internal and Porsche only sells complete transmissions, any repair a the dealer is replace the transmission

Parking lock
Even if the vehicle is in gear, it cannot be prevented from rolling back in the same way as on a manual transmission because the clutches are opened in a depressurized state and therefore do not stop the vehicle from moving. The parking lock prevents the vehicle from rolling away, as with an automatic transmission.

When the vehicle is stationary, the parking lock is engaged (purely mechanically) using the selector lever and blocks the pinion shaft via a catch, which engages in the toothing of the parking-lock gear. The final drive is blocked in this way.

At the recent tech we noted a cable linkage mounted on a PDK on the upper right side of the transmission housing. Could this be the actuator for the parking lock? If so, check to see if the actuator cable has slipped out of the U shaped mounting bracket. It looks similar to a manual transmission shift linkage (except for being on the right side.)
