Porsches at Summit Point
Sunday July 24th, 2005

> Event Details:

The Porsche Driving Club has been invited by Ferrari of Washington to participate in their July 24th Track Event at Summit Point. As car drivin’ crazies, who were we to say no? We will be meeting at Intersport in Tysons Corner in the early morning, and then driving on a daring Porsche Driving Tour to Summit Point. This new tour route is the best one we have done in 8 years. It is not to be missed. Once at Summit, we will be doing our laps on the Shenandoah Circuit. FOW is given us a discounted price to run in their novice group on the track. This event is for people who do not want to race on the track, but want to experience the track in a somewhat controlled manner. This event could be used as a way of getting ready for the PCA DE event the following weekend. In addition, the Shenandoah Circuit has a skid pad track which is super fun. The event includes a catered lunch at the track.

In summary, 3 event activites:
- Porsche Driving Tour of backroads in VA & WVA
- Drive track laps at Summit Point during Ferrari of Washington event
- Catered Lunch served at the track

> Price:

$35 per person and includes everything. This is a cheap day at the track, plus a fun drive through the country side. Note: One must come to Intersport & drive in the Porsche Driving Tour to participate in track portion.

What does "somwhat controlled manner" mean?
Are these full run sessions, or just parade laps?
Instructors? Helmets? Tech inspections?

Think of this event as a Fun Run, but a Fun Run that ends at a track and we'll be able to drive on the track. To my knowledge, this will be the first fun run that has done this.

These are more aggressive parade laps. FOW allows us to go pretty fast. As mentioned, this session is for people who don't want to race, but want to experience the track. For the price you can't beat it. No helmets, safety suits, or roll bars. This is for fun. It is a good way to spend an afternoon and look at some Ferraris. There is going to be some Lamborghinis there as well.

Sounds like fun and I'll most likely participate on the fun run, but I am a bit hesitant about taking laps on the track without proper controls in place. I guess the recent California incident comes to mind.

Driving on the track is surely optional, but recommended. FOW has been doing these track events for sometime. The novice class is designed to create a safe, non-competitive environment for one to experience the track. Passing is not allowed at any time on the track. The legecy of California Speedway is that everyone is focusing on safety first. I have had discussions with FOW about this and these guys are safety focused. No chance of overlapping classes on the track occuring like in California. FOW is an organized group during their track events. I have been told that corner workers and a full support staff will be present during the novice runs. FOW has a reputation to uphold.

Wife, kids and dog will be at the beach! I am soooo in for this! That price is insanely low, even if it is parade laps. I'm looking forward to it. Thanks for organizing this.

Wow, this is my kind of fun run, it sounds like a fun event Kevin. I'm definitely in for this! Like Ted said, the price is very attractive. For those who have never met Kevin, his events are a good time, he's had experience organizing gatherings and runs for both the Lambo and Ferrari crowds. I can't wait.

Hmmm... might be a good way for me to experience the new track without a GT-3 or Pari's car jammed up my a$$!
