BlackTalon - Thanks a lot; I appreciate that. I am reluctant to post comments with the pictures, pointing out issues, as it then becomes subjective and looks like I am piling on. That's why I would rather just post pictures with no comments. I am sure others here have seen and know quality from non-quality. If they want, they can identify issues they see for fellow members. I was going to post pictures of all of the work done in VA to allow everyone to see but it seems that may get me banned or barred from posting. So I will respect that some have a weak constitution and have seen enough of the VA work.
I will post more pictures of the corrective work done in CA, and comment about it as it is absolutely stunning and I have no concerns about talking about it. In the end, we are all car guys, maybe some girls, that would all get along over a beer or two talking about one of our passions. Cheers. |

And tell us about the 911 in Neapolitan colors in the background!

Good eye. That's a 68 911R, an actual R, I saw the VIN. That car is worth several million dollars and is in Kent's shop getting the complete chassis squared away and then paint. I was thrilled to be able to see that car in person and look it over. Serious race history.

I will point out that there is no bondo on this chassis to make it straight or to have the panels line up and have correct gaps. Everything has been metal finished. That is one of the things one likes to see on restorations. Bondo is not bad, as long as it is used correctly. However when panels are covered in it and a car is sculpted, that is not a good thing. That is one of the reasons when someone does a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) they will bring a small magnet or paint meter to check and see if the car has been correctly repaired/painted if it is not original paint. Here is the replacement passenger side rear quarter panel stripped and metal finished before it is installed.

I'll repeat what I said before and echo what Talon said. But now that I can see it on the big screen (Not my phone) the bad work is much more apparent. This forum is a little less DIY than it used to be and more about track and we let those Cayman guys hang here as well. So it's nice to see some old cars again. It is nice to have a little context....here's how I got it, here's how it's supposed to look. I don't think it's "piling on" at that point, it's educational.

Please do. I saw some of the pics of the work done by the new shop (headlight buckets, etc) and it looks phenomenal. My sort of OCD.

I've got a fairly original early 914-6, so I look forward to the parallel threads since I cant spend all my time on all the forums
Keep it coming! Sorry about your experiences early on in your project. Glad to see you've got a shop you like and they are getting you what you want.

Why not post the links to 914forum threads? Aren't these pictures (and the whole backstory) already there?
