Default New family hauler

Our minivan was getting a bit long in the tooth and was going to need a couple thousand in work prior to its state inspection... plus, since we moved in August, it couldn't make the angle into our driveway -- overhangs too long and low.

So we took a pretty big upgrade. Hyundai Palisade Limited AWD. Really loaded with tech, heated & cooled seats in the first two rows, smart cruise control, heads-up display, all kinds of traffic and collision alerts. This will be the wife's daily. 7-seater with room for actual humans in all three rows.

Very nice. Seems the car magazines are very fond of the Palisade and it's Kia twin. The white shows of the body lines nicely.

Looks good. But what is its towing capacity?

I've been happy with my Hyundai Azera since I bought it off the lot in 2012. Wish they still made it. Has all the same bells and whistles as the BMW 745Li that I traded it in for minus the soft close doors. Hyundai may design with a photocopier, but they produce quality vehicles that are very reasonable to maintain.

Best thing? It's not a minivan!

Pretty amazing how good vehicles are today

Towing is 5,000lb and comes with wiring. If we install a hitch receiver, it'll strike on our driveway. I'll probably get a stealth hitch so we can put on the bike carrier.

We had a Sonata way back then. They do make solid automobiles. And the warranty is a nice security blanket.

Agreed, although I was a fan of the minivan! So practical! There just aren't many made these days. Just Chrysler, Honda, Toyota (new one for 2021) and Kia.

x2 hard to beat as a people mover. I have friends that despise them so they get 15mpg with a suburban and have less space.

I put a brake controller and did some wiring on one not too long ago, speaks to how capable they are. I am not interested in putting a transmission in it though.

Whenever I hear folks dog a van it reminds me of this old GRM article

I assume a test drive to your driveway was a requirement to ensure it could get in? Looks nice all white and shiny. Personally, we went from a Sienna (minivan w/ awd) to a Highlander (soft road SUV).. I prefer the Sienna's space, visibility (tall windows and large greenhouse) and drive/ride quality. But, since I don't have to drive it often, I don't get to care as much Enjoy!

Did it on faith... was pretty confident it would make it into the driveway, and it does. Although it scrapes (and proximity detection goes nuts) if you try to back in.

Incidentally, I've never been happier that my 914 is stock height. No issues.
