Hi Adrian!

Did you buy that car from a guy in South Riding? The neighbor of a good friend of mine was selling one just like it.

BB.

Welcome Adrian!
Looks like you changed your seats? Which ones are in the car now? What size fuch wheels? Need to give us more details. Long hoods are very special to most of us, and the '73 are the top picks!

Guys thanks for the welcome,

BB--with regards to the purchase of the car--it is kind of a saga -- I think you are right that this car was for sale in South Riding--it had a black targa bar, trim, and door handles then--I actually looked at this vehicle and was going to buy it but I couldn't get the seller to let me do a PPI so I walked.

A guy in Bethesda bought the car and tried to flip it on ebay--I saw it go up on ebay -- I decided to let it go when the price went way over what the original seller was asking.

Fast forward a couple months later I posted a WTB add -- and got pinged. I asked the guy for a picture of the vehicle and it turned out to be the same car. Evidently the flip went bad and he was just looking to unload it--he agreed to a PPI -- it was leaking a lot of oil and running rough but the body was solid so I bought it for what I thought was a reasonable cost considering the condition--thinking I would have to do some mechanical work--this is my first porsche so a lot of this was discovery learning.

I started thumbing through my books and reading on Pelican to figure out what was causing it to run rough--turns out the guy had filled the oil tank to full when cold rather than to half full when hot so when it got hot it was hemmoraging oil and choking out. I drained a couple quarts out of the oil tank and it started running like a champ. Needless to say I was extremely happy about that and it's been running pretty good ever since.

Track Ratt--here is some additional details on the car.

History:
-It lived in Southern California until the late 90s when it was brought to the DC area by a Naval Officer--I have the records back to the 80s.
-On/about 1983 the car got the SC treatment--flares and black trim, ducktail and black Targa bar--it also had the weber conversion done by PMO before PMO was making their own carbs.

Stats:
Fuchs: I'm really not sure I'm thinking 7 and 8s but I don't know.
Webers: not sure what size they are
2.4 Engine--I don't think it is the original engine--but I could be wrong--it has definatly been rebuilt and has great leak-down stats.
915 5 speed transmission--it has the short shift kit but still needs some synchro work.

Body condition:
Great body condition the only trouble spots are around the windshield on the two corners--it leaks there and I need to get it fixed--I have donor pieces -- just need to find the right shop to fix the problem.

The hood has some rust bubbles from where a bra was on the car but it's nothing fatal.

Seats: I bought it with the tombstone seats which needed to be redone--I was contemplating doing it myself when I saw some old Scheel seats pop up on craigslist and bought them--they don't look as quite as sleak as I'd like but they are comfortable--a poor man's recaro.

Here is a post I did on Pelican that shows more info on the seats

Cool longhood. I am digging the front door speaker covers - blingy!

That is a great story about the overfilled oil. The flipper lost out because he tried to make a quick buck on something he knew nothing about, so he was stung. Nice find.

Welcome to the sandbox Adrian!

X2 of the overfilled oil story. Your fortune cookie must have been a doozy that day.

Nice looking car. I like the color, though seems unusual to me. What color is it?

Consider bringing it out to an autocross someday!

Thanks guys -- yeah I got lucky on the purchase.

Roundel, if you like that bling you should have seen it when it was sporting the black trim and SC flair guards.

AJ, The color is a dupont color--dark blue I have the code at home -- definately not a stock Porsche color--it was originally silver.

Thanks again looking forward to seeing you around at some driving events.
