Just an aside...Spaz is a good friend of mine, and has moved out of the land of Porsche. Before I became a member here (didn't have a Porsche at the time...), I was a lurker witness to some of his threads that really went downhill fast here. He's a youngin' and I chalk his indiscretions up to a bit of questionable judgment and youthful impatience. He's actually quite a good guy and a sharp driver. He ended up winning rookie of the year in '07 for NASA-MA 944 Cup. He's now buying a few gold chains and is cultivating his chest hair in order to fit in with the other Corvette drivers . He's racing a C5 Vette in NASA's ST-2 this year.

Back on topic. My point is this...Ed, there is hope for you and your targa here as long as you have a thick skin to handle the ribbing and are willing to listen to some of the advice the fine folks at Dorki have to offer. This is a pretty responsible crowd as far as driving goes. Most of us like to push the limits of the car at an autocross or a track event. IMHO, that's where it belongs.

Welcome Ed. Just remember that 911's prefer to travel BACKWARDS in the "twistys". That's what makes them so fun to drive. Join PCA and sign up for the upcoming High Performance Driving Clinic. Best $100 you'll ever spend on that car.

Ed welcome...

you must do the HPDC...If anything you will walk away with a different view of your car and others around you...And if you have the experience of spinning your car around....You will fully understand the difference between a front engine and a rear engine When you lose control. That car will spin and head backwards very quickly

Thats why if you want to tackle the twisties at least you are doing it in a more controlled environment and have an instructor explain what you did wrong....or the peanut gallery that watches you spin...

It is a long physical mental day.....You will learn so much from the volunteering instructors that you should walk away with a greater appreciation for the car and other drivers around you.

What ever you have learned from your prior experiences or the DMV is completely wrong...(Unless you have had prior formal training)

Otherwise you become a BOOB like me when you push the envelope and not fully understand the full Limits of your car....And POOF...You are spinning and heading for the trees....Looking for nuts....

Good luck and welcome.... Great bunch of guys who are quick to help, educate and quick to Heckle...But it is all in good fun...Hope to see ya around....

BTW DR and gang ..you missed one...
"And no, I am not a cop. And I did not play one on the Village People And my partner is my LAW partner, you silly gooses!

Slackers....LOL...

Yup....Took my lumps and and learned from it...Turn 7 is a beast at the end of the day....Just hit the Apex too early and a tad bit too fast....I soon realized I was heading off the track... turned in too quickly.(triple shake of the steering wheel to gain traction ..Right Passenger rear started to come around....turned the steering wheel toward the right side to compensate for the A$$ coming around and punched the pedal hoping to kick myself out....turbo kicked in and just swung me around faster than I could blink...

Quickly pressed brake and clutch at same time... but nothing you can do at that moment other than go for the ride and hope for the best

Good stuff

...you have no idea how hard I tried to stay in front of you! (see avatar) I was pedaling that little Mazda as hard as I could!

And I'd have succeeded, too, if it wasn't for your medaling boost!

Them squirrels were tired, too, when we were done.

I'll actually end up running both cars. It's nice having two that can do this...

Hey guys, I saw the "you must post pics of your car as part of the intro" so I thought I'd follow up with some of my favorites:

My pic with the CGT is possibly my favorite ever because, yes, I just passed all three of those cars and Jim Bauer is driving the CGT with Randy Pobst coaching him! The picture at night is when Randy and I took my RSA out and were determined to see how fast we could make it go around VIR. Randy's an awesome guy who convinced me to stick with racing and really has helped me out a lot with it.

Then there's my first Porsche ('67 912), and I had to throw in the WRX at Sebring which terrified a few 911s there. It was a case of not being able to get the 911 ready, so what the heck, throw the station wagon on the trailer.

following jase007 advice,I post my intro here ??
I have a 1979 911Sc targa. The car did not run for a few years and just it bought as is.The engine turns over fine but it does not want to start
just put a Brand new gas tank and fuel pump.
When I turn the contact on I can hear the fuel pump going but it does not shut off ,it keeps pumping until I turn the contact off.
Thank you for any help. It's my first 911 and cant wait to drive it
Michel.
