very nice carry gun. almost too nice. and very gentlemanly. but certainly not the nicest range gun. so it does not get fired all that much. learn to shoot it reliably and accurately. then after, put a few rounds through it to keep proficient and familiar. the makers caution that it is for personal protection, carrying concealed, and not designed for plinking. it’s double action, no safety, no lock, no magazine disconnect, no sharp edges, everything smooth and clean. and almost no weight. less recoil than similarly-sized 9mm. accurate. long pull trigger with extremely even pressure and perfectly clean break. but i’ve heard the owners sold the company to remington last year. not sure what that will do to future quality. |

For whatever it's worth, Blue Ridge's website is wrong on that. They allow anything for handguns so long as it is at least partially jacketed so hollow points are good. Lead round nose ammo is out, tho.

Been awhile but as I recall, it is remove mag prior to running dry and reload while still holding original mag. Original mag is then retained, but I don't believe it has to go back into a mag holder, could be just a pocket.

So the OP was for target practice and a first gun, whoever suggested the Browning Buckmark was spot on. Best way to learn to shoot a semi-auto pistol is to use a lower caliber and work on fundamentals. After you build confidence you can build caliber.
Now for carry, I agree each person is different, and if you don't get what is comfortable you won't carry it. Current policy for me very much restricts ours to a Glock in 40cal. But it was initially only a G22, now we can carry a G23 or G27. (We won't get into my feelings on policy) but what I noticed is that every persons hands are different, so the different pistol sizes allow them to fit different hands. In addition, Glocks newest generations have adjustable backstops. As far as 9mm, I love me some Browning Hi-Power. Granted they are old and $$$$ but they are a very nice balance. They are also like 1911 variants in that they do not have a decocker, so it is either carry hammer down on an empty chamber, hammer down on a loaded chamber, or hammer back using the safety. I owned a 226, and the key word is owned. It was big and bulky and I didn't like it. Some of their other models are great, and I really like them. As far a wheel guns, semi autos, single action, double action, I will say this, with regards to a carry pistol. Studies have shown that if the SHTF your fine motor skills are the first to go. I would hate to be in a situation where I needed to not only draw, but use a weapon, and my fine motor skills take a dump. Especially when you think that fine motor skills are used for things like taking off a safety.... To each is own and we will all carry what we want to carry, but that is something to think about. Incidentally, it is also part of the reason many police departments switched from wheel guns to Glocks. Glocks have no external safety. At the time it was easier to teach people that had only carried wheel guns the transition to semi-autos.

An interesting thread, we have a classic Henry 22 that has not seen any use and would be interested in a trade for a Walther PPK or possibly a RM380
Send a pm if interested
