No, but was probably a space frame made of tubes no larger than my thumb. Racecars of that vintage are scary looking w/ the bodywork off. Google images for a porsche 908 frame or a lotus as examples. Worlds apart compared to what is required today.

Old race cars aren't very safe (from a crash safety standpoint)
I love how they actually race hard when they vintage race in europe. But if you have the money to race a one off or rare care, you have the money to fix them when they crash.
