I have to wonder how much further it takes to stop, given the wheels present enormous leverage compared to the now relatively tiny brakes?!

Ummm being a member of the Self Preservation Society I don't think I would stay on a STOPPED train filled with smoke to the point that People were throwing up around me, people coughing, people spitting up for 40 minutes waiting for the doors to open.
