Thanks to VASteve for educating me a bit more.

It appears to be either the alternator, or wiring to/from the alternator. At this time, I'm going to spare my neighbors (and the fire department as well), and get it to a professional.

Thanks for all the suggestions and feedback. I really felt I have learned more than I knew before.
