Thanks to all....I have definitely been schooled. At least now I understand its all about the moisture, more than anything else. Dry is good.
Now I'm curious if anyone has ever tried using a vacuum pump to evacuate the tire before refilling with dry air, nitrogen, etc.....

I've never tried it, but the trick might be knowing when to stop. You'd want to get as much air out as possible, but there would be a magic [or tragic] point where you pulled enough vacuum to break the seal on the rim. Not much fun after that, I guess.
