He turned - you can see the front tires turn just before the wall blocks the view. Locked up front tires = keep going straight.

I wonder what is on the far side of the first barrier he hit? When the left rear first makes its appearance it has already been sheered off completely from the hub with the wheel moving outboard. Almost like the wheel already failed and was exiting the wheel well (rather than moving inboard because it hit a curb and sheered).

Anybody else clinch right before the wall....

at the 27second mark you can see the drivers rear wheel had no spokes left, not sure if thats from the curb or what the cause was.

that car was flying....get it?

but it really did sounds ungodly fast with that gear change and im suprised at the crowd with no one reacting to go help someone who just went in the water...one guy looks like he is downloading his next porn pic

Also, it's amazing how intact that tub appears after hitting the wall so hard!

x2 on "did they get out ok?"
Barrier is not concrete. It is hollow and has little mass thus the lack of damage to the car. On the other hand it proved useless in protecting the car from going into the water it was placed in front of.

I think the wheels were torn off by the standard concrete curb the plastic barrier was sitting on.

I'd like to see the in-car video.

And re: the Jalopnik article, what does having the engine in the back have to do with anything?

Don't forget that in Nader's book UNSAFE AT ANY SPEED, he advocated seat belts for motorcycles.
