That made me smile. I wonder if they have someone stopping traffic or if they simply don't include those wrecks on their videos.

A piece of an old wiskey bottle went up inside the back of his helmet. He was not wearing a helmet collar at the time. That is really old footage and the safety standards have increased a lot from those days. No more open cars, all the cars have roll bars, 5 or 6 point harness, detatchable wheels, etc., etc., etc.

Sometimes we do have permits and insurance with the police closing the roads for us and sometimes we don't. It depends on the location and other circumstances.

We get the "it looks like fun" thing a lot. The races are about as fun as going down the chute at Summit at 12 tenths in the rain on slicks. When we are racing its not fun, its serious business. But it is fun when we do our fun runs where you go at your own pace and competition doesn't enter into it.

One thing I have learned is that it is much more difficult to drive one of these things well then it is to drive a car where you have the throttle to help balance things.
