X2 no chips in floor, no real work. Still nice place to park.

I have this for ten years. Works great. Can heat my 20x20 garage from 20 degrees to 70 in 30 minutes. Thermostat keeps it at any temp I desire. I love waxing the car and looking out my garage windows and seeing the snow fall. I believe it ran off 220. I had an electrician come out and install.

So back to my original question....little hesitant given the multiple warnings on this thing. Seems some have used it. I guess it would be better to be cold than burn the house down.

Open flame makes me nervous. If you can make sure the tank is stable, platform maybe?, and there is some sort of guard for the flame I would try it.

I have a kerosene heater collecting dust...

That thing that Manny has looks like the ticket, and at $279, not too bad in my opinion!

Sounds like the one I have and it works very well. No real "flame", uses a mesh screen to rediate heat. Mine works very well and appears as "safe" as any aux. heater. Keep the kid away cause the front gets hot enough to brand little hands

I didn't want any flame, gas or fuel in my garage. I'm clumsy enough with a drill I'd love to have that heat pump thing that the Church's have. My parents have it in their sunroom and it's great. It's even remote controlled. Mmm, AC in the garage...I already have the TV and wireless net access.....

I've been using a small "torpedo" or "salamander" or...... . Open flame but I never use chemicals, etc. when it is on. Run it for about 10 minutes and have an hour of comfort. The trick is having nothing flamable nearby. So, now I have re arrange the garage again so I don't start any fires.

Manny, how much of a power sucker is your heater. I tried a portable industrial-style electric heater for about a week a few years ago. Didn't do anything but make my electric bill about $20 more for that month. Ended up returning that heater.

Since then I've been using a propane, stovepipe-style heater. It cranks out about 325,000 BTU's but it requires 120lb. propane tanks and sounds like a jet at max power. Kind of a PITA and there's the whole danger aspect. Definitely, no vapor-making work happening when that thing is on. Manny's heater sounds like the ticket!!!
