Tony, I do not understand how this thing works, but it sounds like the explanation on the website is a fancy way of saying clutch type LSD

C. Any limited slip differentials (LSDs) derived from a mechanical type that was delivered in a street-legal Porsche is allowed. No locked differentials will be permitted.

Great work day today. Much of this post is duplicated on the "DIY Day in Potomac" thread, but this one has photos!

The attendees included JA Fort (Andrew), Fritz, Bill Miller, Stephen D, Patrick3000 (Karl), his friend Jose, and John H. and we got a LOT done including mounting the turn signal lights (very clever design by Stephen), wiring the headlights and turn signals and reworking wiring and hoses for the windshield washers (retained) and headlight washers (NOT retained) (huge thanks to Bill Miller who really understands the wiring of these cars), mounting the stock oil lines (now I can order the AN stuff to the front oil cooler), grinding off the stock rear sway bar mounts (Stephen would have done this all himself had I not felt I should be working instead of watching--thanks SD), and repairing my fiberglass IROC wing (Fritz was instrumental here, also Andrew - actually I looked, paid for the epoxy, and allowed it to be done correctly while I did other stuff).

Thanks again, guys. The Dumb-Ass Gene appeared only once, and not car related. I mistakedly ordered a one of the pizzas as a medium rather than a large, and we kind of ran out. I offered sandwiches (luckily no one took me up on that, because my wife informed me later that we had no lunch meat left... ).

Here the turn signal housing wouldn't fit - angles wrong in fiberglass so only one bolt or the other (of 2) could get through the fiberglass:Name: Turn Signal Light Does Not Fit.jpg

The amazing Dubovsky solution - make a tab on one end, clip around fiberglass and bolt in other end:

Here is the turn signal housing and lens in place (but not wired yet):

Why does this photo remind me of highway workers?

Here are Fritz and Andrew working on the wing (Andrew's wing, with a similar problem, is next):

Getting to work on the sway bar mounts, Initially, we (SD) cut off the metal that wasn't against the car (with a cutting wheel), then we worked the metal left attached away from the car as much as possible. Here is the metal after cutting away the outer part:

Size: 195.5 KB

Working the unwelded part away:

Using a grinding wheel, we (SD and I) ground down the the metal around the welds:

Size: 195.6 KB

After cutting away, we're left with the welds to grind down: Name: Sway Bar Mount - welds still there.jpg

Size: 165.1 KB

Here it is after grinding down the welds (finished with a sanding wheel and then twisted wire brush):

Here is the WeVo mount, held in approximate position. I used a sharp punch to mark the position of the old mount - guess I didn't make the marks deep enough (although they seemed pretty deep when I made them...).

Question on the mounts:
Should you / we drill a few holes in the mating part of the mount to weld some "spots" in that area like the originals?

Did the directions come with any measurements?
The measurements should be out there somewhere because wern't the sway bars an upgrade to the earlier cars that didn't have them?

Is there anything special with the metal in the mounts that effect welding?

I've noticed the Pizza wars are back. Dominoes and Pizza Hut have seemed to step it up a notch!

remount the sway bar with the "mount" attached, move into place and mark the chasis.

Thanks, WM and TR. I'll get the photos from OldTee.

Some things to notice on the "highway workers" photo above:
  • Note the excellent use of the "Kurt Bins"
  • Note the lack of tools on the floor (thanks for that training, TR)
  • Note that it only looks like Karl is leaning on the car, but actually his elbow is being held up by a random arrow
  • Note how bright it is in there. That light is on sale again (Craftsman Club price: $30 and now includes a free hand-held work light: http://www.craftsman.com/shc/s/p_101...ord=work+light)

Oops, forgot two things. Andrew mounted up the oil lines (thanks to brackets donated by a great Dorki):

And I also got some cage photos from Piper.

Holy crap -- your garage is huge! Damn, it even has a mezzanine!

How did the scissors lift work for you? Did you have to tackle anything where the lift was a hinderence vs a 2-post?

(warning: Im a blunt engineer) IMO, thats a terrible window net setup. Looks like that lower bit will tear the ass out of your suit within the first week of using it (though Im guessing its supposed to 'drop down' - until it gets accidentally bent, catches on the bar padding, etc.) Too far back too (or just too small).
